Beaucoup Fish is a 1999 (see 1999 in music) album by Underworld. Loosely translated, the album name means "Many Fish". At the time, it was their most hyped release, and the video for "Push Upstairs" was played regularly on MTV and MTV2. This was due to the huge success of their single Born Slippy from the soundtrack of Trainspotting . "Push Upstairs" and the second single "Jumbo" were both hits on the dance charts and in clubs. Beaucoup Fish was well-received critically (one review calling it "electronica's Dark Side of the Moon") and remains Underworld's best-selling album.

The album's original working title was "Tonight Matthew, I'm Going to be Underworld" inspired by British TV programme 'Stars in Their Eyes' [2] however it was later changed on the basis that this tongue in cheek title would be incomprehensible to non British buyers.

Sound

The album is mostly heavy trance beats, usually at a fast tempo, and thus very danceable. The primary instruments used are synthesizers, drum machines and stream-of-consciousness poetry sung/spoken over the beats.
