Prince, from the Latin root princeps, is a title of some members of Royal
families and the highest ranks of the aristocracy or the nobility, and was
used as a term for monarchs in general.
The title is given only to males and has several fundamentally different
meanings, of which one is generic to the word, and several types of
titles. The female equivalent is a princess.
