The United Nations Intelligence Taskforce (also known as UNIT) is a
fictional military organisation from the British science fiction television
series Doctor Who. Operating under the auspices of the United Nations, its
purpose is to investigate and combat paranormal and extraterrestrial
threats to the Earth. In the original Doctor Who series, several UNIT
personnel (such as The Brigadier) played a major role in the series. In the
new Doctor Who series, UNIT has been referenced and appeared a few times
but no specific UNIT personnel have been involved with the show the way
they had been in the old series.
